So You Think You Can Dance Season 10: My Top 10 Routines

Posted: September 10, 2013 in So You Think You Can Dance, TV

The Finale Show of SYTYCD is upon us, which means two things…Summer is over and we crown our favorite dancers. But before the show tonight, how about I rank my Top 10 Favorite dances throughout this season.

#10  Malece, Alan, Mackenzie, Hayley, Nico, Jenna, and Spencer Liff – “Come Together”: It played out like the coolest pool hall ever, having a “grease type feeling.” Plus it gave us the chance to see just how talented Spencer Liff is.

#9  Makenzie and Paul – Hip Hop by David Scott – “Pretty Lil’ Heart”: While it definitely had more of a lyrical or jazzy feel, I felt these two dancers put their all into the routine. It was slinky and sexy and extremely stylish.

#8  Mariah and Carlos – Contemporary by Stacey Tookey – “Dead in the Water”: Carlos we never knew ye, but I have to say I was stunned by the emotional growth these two dancers displayed from Episode 1 to Episode 2. All of my frustrations with Mariah doing contemporary were quashed when I saw how she moved and emoted with Carlos during this routine. I’m sure a lot of it had to do with the fact that he was already eliminated at this point (how hard must that have been?), but it definitely made me feel. Especially when Mariah collapsed into tears at the end.

#7  Alexis and Nico – Contemporary with Sonya – “Ashes”: This was another one where I was won over by a non-contemporary dancer. Even though she still didn’t dance with the lightness most contemporary dancers dance with, Soyna added some funky elements that really helped Alexis out. That running in motion move was totally fantastic. Nico was also finally given a chance to shine showing the tricks he so excels at.

#6  Hayley and Nico – Broadway by Sean Cheesman – “Kiss Of The Spiderwoman”: From a standing position, Hayley lifted her foot to her head and from behind her, back to back, Nico grabbed her foot and hand and swung her head over foot over his head. Need I say MORE?

#5  Comfort and Jasmine – Hip Hop with Nappy Tabs – “Run The World (Girls)”: It was tough, but sexy, hard but girly. Jasmine has swag and Comfort has never performed better. It was also a great routine by Nappy Tabs. Girl Power!

#4  Jasmine and Alan – Contemporary by Travis Wall – “Can’t Help Falling In Love”: Gone too soon Jasmine was a marvel in this first routine by a couple we grew to love. It was a great routine, so gentle, so sweet. Plus it also introduced to Alan’s Arms.

#3  Aaron and All-Star Kathryn – Contemporary with Stacey Tookey –“I’m Kissing You”: It really such a gentle piece and it showed off how great of a partner Aaron is, while showcasing his strength at the same time. It also showcased Kathryn who is also getting better and better.

#2  Paul, Alan, Nico, Fik-Shun, Tucker – Choreographed by Nappy Tabs – “It’s A Man’s Man’s World”: All these boys laid it out on the line during this song. It took so much stamina that the boys could barely keep the exhaustion off their face at the end of the song. Not only was the choreography spectacular, the boys moved as one unit.

#1  Amy and All-Star Travis Wall – Contemporary with Travis Wall – “Wicked Game”: Choreographer, Dancer, there’s nothing Travis Wall can’t do…like break Amy out of her cutesy shell and have her dance the best she has ever danced. There was just so much to LOVE in this routine I can’t even pick my favorite moment. Okay, I can, it was that whale dive move Amy did in the middle of the piece, absolutely breathtaking.

Which pieces were your favorite? What performances do you think we’ll see again tonight? Who are you rooting for to win?
